CURRICULUM

DPSG-Dehradun offers the curriculum of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) of India.

Five years of the Primary School sees the scope and depth of learning increase gradually, with play and creative expression complementing learning and concept building through the use of the computer, Reading, Self Expression, Story Telling, Theatre, Art, Dance and Music.

In the Middle School, self-reliance in learning becomes an important aim. Attainment standards are defined. Collaborative learning is encouraged along with independent work and goal setting.

The CBSE conducts two examinations - the All India Secondary School Examination (AISSE – Year 10); and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE – Year 12).

The broad curriculum design

We, at DPSG DDN believe in taking our students on their educational journey supported by the Four pillars of Education: Learning to Know; Learning to Do, Learning to Live Together and Learning to Be.

A futuristic engaging curriculum in the Primary and Middle Years and a focused, achievement motivated learning environment in the Senior School

We encourage critical & creative thinking, problem- solving, collaborative work, practical application and appreciation for the Arts and Physical Fitness, the integration of technology across the curriculum and use of e-learning resources for assignments and projects.

Student Study Plan – SSP

Instead of the conventional transfer of information and knowledge, at DPSG DEHRADUN the students lead in exploration, discovery and constructing new meanings and applications of the knowledge. In this endeavor they are ably supported and guided by the teachers in building road maps and pathways together with milestone as they journey along. Teachers provide and advise on learning resources, bench-marking, assessments, reflections, assessment dialogues and hand-holding to ensure that each one chooses his/her own destination and enjoys the journey as the student chugs along.

Through regular assessments and Assessment dialogues Personalized Learning Plans are also developed for students who need learning support.

Goal Setting:

Students are encouraged to set their personal goals in the presence of their parents and teachers at the beginning of each academic year. The goals are SMART and are reviewed several times through the year in order to support the students to attain them.

Scholastics

The Scholastics Domain [SD] includes the Languages, Mathematics, Science and Social Sciences. Importantly, this curriculum design rests on two basic shifts from the conventional academic processes as it is Student Led and Inquiry Based. Foundational Domains [FD].

As Skills & Competencies have come to occupy a centre stage in the life of successful professionals, we believe that it is important that School helps learners in laying the foundation of such skills & competencies and build ways and methods to connect the conduct of curriculum with the fostering of skills & competencies. Arts education, covering a whole range of performing, visual and vocational arts is an e integral part of schools of future and DPSG schools lead the way.

ICT Skills:

The School educational programme and infrastructure supports the development of ICT skills in the students. As classroom transactions incorporate Blended Learning, student skills in ICT are honed beyond the formal teaching of Computer Science during the timetabled ICT lessons.

FIELD TRIPS TO ENHANCE LEARNING

Arts Education:

Each Student on entering the Middle School takes up a Visual Art, A Performing Art and a Vocational Art subject of his choice, compulsorily, and is assessed on it as per the school assessment policy.

Citizenship Studies:

Through a Citizenship Studies Curriculum and a series of experiential, engaging and fun loaded activities the students are inspired and trained to be responsible and able citizens and achieve an augmented awareness of global social issues. The curriculum engages pupils in regular lessons and activities within and beyond the classroom that include opportunities for active citizenship. These inspirational activities and events aspire to strengthen the will of the students to become committed citizens and build the skills required to be responsible citizens.

Clubs & Societies:

Enhancing Learning, Expanding Horizons

At DSPG DEHRADUN, opportunities for creative expression through Clubs and Societies help students discover their interests and talent. The School promotes the following Clubs: Literary Club that supports Public Speaking, Debating, Creative Writing, Quizzing Club, Science Club, Environment Club, Music Club, Art Club, Sculpture Club, Photography Club with teachers committed to bringing out the best in their students and Cooking Clubs that keep the students happily engaged.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

DPSG- Dehradun considers its community service program an integral part of the school's educational philosophy and curriculum. The development of character and integrity and the building of self-confidence are essential goals of the school and are achieved through community service. The School's Community Service Program encourages all students to connect with the greater community, giving them the opportunity to serve and learn from a variety of people outside the students' immediate world.

Health, Physical Fitness & Sports:

Health & fitness are a precondition for rewarding and joyous life. Hence physical conditioning and sports are an equally important part of school curriculum. At DPSG DEHRADUN, while the students are exposed to a wide range of athletics, sports and games through their Junior school years, as they enter the Middle School, they are encouraged to pursue a sport of their choice in order to develop proficiency in it. A daily fitness regimen further supports this Sports & Physical Education.

Assessments

PRE-NURSERY TO V

NURSERY & KINDERGARTEN

Continuous and comprehensive assessments are held throughout the year. The objective of the assessment is to monitor a child’s level of development without comparing it with others. Through continuous evaluation, a comprehensive profile of his/her performance is assimilated and conveyed to the parents twice a year. The assessment/evaluation is recorded in the form of ‘Grade/Rubric’. We do not follow a ranking system in order to eliminate stem unfair assessment of the child.

The students will be evaluated based on the Learner Profiles and skills gained during the Units of Inquiry. There are 10 DPSG Learner Profiles and at the end of each term their level of achievement for the same is conveyed at the Open House.

Primary Wing

The UI approach to learning and assessment encourages development of wider critical – thinking and self –assessment skills. Students and teachers will be actively engaged in dealing with the various nuances of the process of inquiry and the students will be steered to assess their work at different stages and will reflect to see if the aims and objectives set for learning have been fulfilled.

Teachers use Formative Assessment to adjust lesson plans to meet students’ needs. Effective assessment also allows teachers to assess their own method of delivery. Summative Assessments are used after instruction to summarize learning for reporting.

The school curriculum is divided into several Units of Inquiry. Formative and Summative Assessments are conducted for each UI. The assessment methodology is a mix of skills, activities, presentations and class tests.

There are two terms, the first term is Mar - Sept and the second term from Oct.- Feb of the subsequent year. Each term will have Formative Assessments and Summative Assessment cycles. Assessment will be done based on projects, assignments, quizzes, Research Work and Pen paper test etc.
