Art and craft describe a wide variety of activities involving making things with one's own hands. Art and craft is usually a hobby. Through arts and craft, children learn to value and appreciate artifacts and images across cultures and times. Experience in design, art, and crafts enable them to reflect critically on their own work and those by others. They learn to act and think like designers and artists, working intelligently and creatively.
“Art washes from the soul the dust of everyday life.” -Pablo Picasso
At DPSGV we aim to develop the creative vistas of our children. We believe that learning the arts and crafts doesn’t just foster the creative development of a child, but also assists in advancing and refining his or her core skills, which in fact goes towards boosting academic achievement as well.
The school curriculum comprises of strands of visual art at different age groups like art, sculpture, painting, craft and drawing. Exposure to different art mediums at different age groups helps children discover their talent and passion. It develops their creativity and helps build patience. Our children are backed by a team of ardent mentors who help them hone their skills. This has helped our children to not only win accolades in competitions but they have become a name to recon with. Our children have found creative expression in the various school events. They are a strong backbone to our theatre and music team wherein they add all the frills to our annual show Sandarshika. The school corridors reverberate with the creative display of some of the finest artwork by our students. Be it the ECCE wing or the senior classes, they bring life and colour to the school building. Some of our young artists who have pursued their artistic temperament have also turned art into a career for themselves.
Art is important because it makes you feel beauty of freedom. It is free expression of human mind and senses. An expression which is not subdue to any kind of utility, if you don't desire; an expression which only aims at her own existence, at her own beauty.
The children in our school learn skills such as woodworking, wood carving, sewing, making sculptures with clay, thermocol or making things with all sorts of material which can be used as props in different events that are organised in our school on a small level such as Assemblies or a larger than life event such as Annual Functions of different wings. All the props are made by the students and the teachers which create a mesmerizing effect behind the scenes.
