About International Baccalaureate (IB)

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12.

The PYP is an inquiry-based and concept-driven transdisciplinary model of learning and teaching, supported by a strong understanding of how students learn.

PYP students acquire knowledge, develop conceptual understandings, skills and the attributes of the IB Learner Profile to make a positive difference in their own lives, their communities and beyond.

Students also demonstrate agility and creativity in responding to new and unexpected challenges and opportunities, taking action toward creating a better and more peaceful world.

IB Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

Learner Profile Attributes

The IB Learner Profile is a fundamental part of every aspect of school life in the Primary Years Programme (PYP). From the youngest learners to school leaders, educators and parents, everyone in the learning community is dedicated to developing and demonstrating these attributes.

The PYP offers opportunities to explore common human experiences through units of inquiry and daily practices. Embracing the Learner Profile encourages students to better understand themselves, be open to others and nurture international mindedness.

At DPSG Vasundhara, we take pride in offering the IB PYP program to nurture young minds. Our commitment goes beyond the four walls of regular classrooms and academics, focusing on developing global citizens who embody the IB Learner Profile.

Inquiry Cycle

DPSG Vasundhara refers to ‘Kath Murdoch’s inquiry cycle’ to provide a little more structure to the complex world of inquiry-based teaching and learning. Both teachers and students embark on a shared journey, co-constructing experiences, meaning, and knowledge through the power of inquiry.

Transdisciplinary Learning

The Program of Inquiry comprises six broad transdisciplinary themes of global significance, around which our school curriculum is thoughtfully built.

Through a commitment to transdisciplinary learning, students come to appreciate knowledge, conceptual understanding, skills and personal attributes as interconnected elements. These themes serve as the foundation for student inquiries, providing authentic, real-life contexts that encourage exploration, rich dialogue & ongoing collaboration.

As students engage with these themes, they deepen their understanding of themselves, their community and the world. They reflect on the significance of their learning and are inspired to take meaningful action. Furthermore, this journey through the PYP equips students with the cognitive, emotional and social skills necessary for lifelong learning.

Transdisciplinary Themes

The transdisciplinary themes mark the starting point of student inquiries. It is within the context of each theme that students explore related central ideas and assimilate knowledge. These themes engage the learning community in rich dialogues and ongoing collaboration to build an understanding of themselves, their wider community and the world.

1. Who We Are

An inquiry into orientation in place and time, encompassing personal histories, homes, and journeys; the discoveries, explorations and migrations of humankind; and the relationships and interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations from both local and global perspectives.

3. How We Express Ourselves

An inquiry into the various ways we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values. It includes how we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creativity and our appreciation of the aesthetic.

4. How the World Works

5. How We Organise Ourselves

An inquiry into the interconnectedness of human-made systems and communities, focusing on the structure and function of organizations; societal decision-making; and the economic activities that affect both humankind and the environment.
