PYP Exhibition: A Showcase of Learning

Culminating learning experiences

  • In the final year of the PYP, students carry out an extended, in-depth, collaborative project known as the PYP exhibition.
  • This involves students working together in groups to conduct an in-depth inquiry into real-life issues or problems. It is an authentic process for students to explore, document and share their understanding of an issue or opportunity of personal significance.
  • Students then collectively synthesize all the essential elements of the PYP in ways that can be presented and shared with the whole school community.
  • All exhibitions are student-initiated, designed and collaborative.

Glimpses

Delhi Public School Ghaziabad Vasundhara culminated its 1st PYP Exhibition - an event that marked a significant milestone in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) journey. Held in the academic session 2023-24, this exhibition showcased the collective inquiry, creativity, and commitment of our young learners, who explored and presented critical issues impacting our world today.

Under the guidance of their mentors, our Grade 5 students delved into topics such as Gender Discrimination, Poverty, Wars, Space Debris, Cybercrime, Racism, Human Rights, and Unknown Diseases. Through a process of deep inquiry and research, they identified problems, examined causes and effects, and proposed potential solutions to these complex global challenges.

The exhibition was not just an academic exercise but a platform where students demonstrated their learning through the lens of the PYP transdisciplinary themes and approaches to learning. It was a space where they expressed their ideas and showcased their understanding through various mediums, including presentations, models, digital tools, art, drama, and creative storytelling.

Highlights of the Exhibition:

1. Gender Discrimination: Students explored the barriers women face across various fields, advocating for equal opportunities through skits, interviews, and awareness campaigns.

2. Poverty: Our young learners explored the social issue of poverty, focusing on its impact on education, health, and quality of life. They analyzed how poverty restricts access to basic needs and hinders overall well-being. As part of their inquiry, they took the initiative to organize an enlightening online session with Ms. Sunila Page, Associate Director of Doorsteps, an NGO dedicated to empowering underprivileged communities. This interaction provided invaluable insights and inspired our students to think critically about social equity and their role in fostering change.

3. Wars: Presentations on the humanitarian impact of wars, their effect on children, and the importance of peace and diplomacy in the modern world.

4. Cybercrime: Awareness sessions on the dangers of cybercrime, data privacy, and responsible digital citizenship in a technology-driven era.

5. Racism: An exploration of the roots of racism and its societal impacts, along with messages promoting inclusivity and respect for diversity.

6. Human Rights: Insightful presentations on the importance of human rights, drawing from global examples to highlight the need for protection and advocacy.

7. Unknown Diseases: Investigations into emerging diseases, their origins, and the role of global cooperation in combating pandemics.

8. PYP Exhibition Highlight: Space Debris

Our Grade 5 students explored the critical issue of Space Debris. An exclusive online session with John L. Crassidis, a leading expert working with NASA to monitor space debris! This unique opportunity inspired our young inquirers to delve deeper into the challenges of keeping space clean and safe. Kudos to our students for their curiosity and passion for learning!
