Can technology replace teachers?

BY ADMIN PUBLISHED August 26, 2022, UPDATED January 13, 2023

In light of the current situation, we no longer know whether we are changing the world with technology or if the technology is changing the world and us. Nowadays every question can be looked up on the internet. It is a curious person’s paradise and so more and more people are now gaining knowledge and education themselves through the internet.

E-learning is thus a boon in today’s world. It enables us to learn anywhere, anytime and virtually at no huge cost. The learners can choose what they really want to learn, and use their time efficiently. Usually people have to commute, buy accommodation and buy other physical stuff to aid their learning, but when learning online one does not need to worry about these.

The question then is, can e-learning replace the classroom-learning? Can computers replace teachers?

Well, learning is creation, not consumption and knowledge is not something a learner absorbs but something a learner creates in his head. The human aspect of classroom learning gives it an edge over its competitor, e-learning. The human interaction is the trump-card here.

“Emotion is energy in motion.”- Peter McWilliams

We are social animals and we crave being around others of our kind, this is  something which all of us have realised while being stuck at home.E-learning may allow us to learn at a place which isn’t school, but it can never replace school. It takes grit and commitment to do something like studying and following a schedule, and the conducive environment at school, which is full of other learners and mentors make it more enjoyable and thus efficient.

So, our precious teachers cannot be replaced by machines and our schools cannot be replaced by the ever expanding internet.

“Technology will not replace great teachers but technology in the hands of great teachers can be transformational.” George Couros
