“Leadership is not about being in charge. It’s about taking care of those in your charge.” – Simon Sinek
In a world that’s constantly evolving, the call for empowered, empathetic, and ethical leaders has never been louder. Rising to this call, the Delhi Public School Ghaziabad Society (DPSGS) organized a comprehensive and experiential five-day Student Council Leadership Program (SCLP) from June 6 to June 10, 2025, in Dehradun. This program aimed to provide meaningful and collaborative leadership lessons to its impressive student body from the seven prestigious DPSG Meerut Road, DPSG Vasundhara, DPSG International (Dasna), DPSG Sushant Lok, DPSG Palam Vihar, DPSG Faridabad, and DPSG Dehradun. The enthusiastic participation of over 96 students from across 7 DPSG schools in the SCLP highlights the event's success and significant role in enhancing their confidence, agility, and responsiveness.
The journey to effective leadership is challenging unless one possesses the right mix of skills and expertise. The Student Council Leadership Program (SCLP) was initiated to foster the holistic development of students in leadership positions within their schools, transforming them into action-oriented individuals capable of guiding and leading others.
Why Leadership? Why Now?
Leadership is no longer confined to offices or titles. It’s about resilience, collaboration, vision, and the ability to bring about a change — whether in a classroom or in the community. Recognizing this, DPSGS aimed to nurture leadership from the grassroots, starting with its student councils — the very pulse of student voice and initiative in schools.
Consequently, SCLP 2025 was meticulously designed not just to teach leadership, but to allow students to live it, embrace it, and most importantly, define it for themselves.
Program Highlights: A Day-by-Day Chronicle
The agenda for this five-day program was meticulously designed to reflect the essential requirements of a leadership role.
Day 1: Lighting the Flame Within
The program kickstarted with the symbolic lamp-lighting ceremony, setting the tone for reflection, purpose, and unity. The opening keynote sessions delved into the core values of great leadership — integrity, vision, empathy, and courage — inspired by real-life leaders and everyday heroes.
Day 2: Thinking Beyond Boundaries
Through interactive sessions and hands-on activities, students delved into themes such as resilient and purpose-driven leadership, entrepreneurial thinking, De Bono’s Six Thinking Hats, and adaptive problem-solving.
Day 3: Into the Wild – Lessons from Nature
True leaders don’t emerge from comfort zones. An invigorating trek through the Dunga Sal forests encouraged lessons in resilience, environmental stewardship, and stamina. This was followed by vital discussions on key aspects of school life, including discipline, cleanliness, relationships, and responsibility.
Day 4: Collaborate. Create. Celebrate.
Marking collaborative efforts, students engaged in Integrated Council Collaboration, which included brainstorming sessions tackling real school challenges with smart, sustainable, and student-led solutions. The day concluded with a Valedictory Ceremony, recognizing student achievements with certificates and sustainable mementos. The room was filled with pride and encouragement as young leaders shared their biggest takeaways, many spoke of finding their voice, discovering courage, and building friendships that transcended school boundaries.
Day 5: Farewell, But Never Goodbye
After four days of inspiration, collaboration, and leadership growth, the Student Council Leadership Program concluded on a high note of success! The final day was an emotional blend of farewells and gratitude. Students, teachers, and principals gathered one last time at SelaQui International School to express appreciation to the organizers, mentors, and facilitators who made this transformative experience possible.
What Set SCLP Apart?
Unlike traditional leadership events, SCLP 2025 was an experiential powerhouse. It wasn’t about lectures or notes. It was about doing, feeling, and transforming.
Over these five immersive days, our young changemakers embodied leadership rather than simply learning about it. Through trekking, team challenges, role plays, reflections, and real-world problem-solving, they displayed courage, collaboration, and clarity. Their change speaks volumes: from inspired learners to empowered leaders capable of leading with purpose, agility, and integrity.
A Heartfelt Gratitude!
To conclude, the Delhi Public School Ghaziabad Society (DPSGS) extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the student councils, dedicated teachers, and esteemed principals for their enthusiastic participation and unwavering support in making SCLP 2025 a resounding success. Their collective efforts, leadership, and commitment have not only elevated the standard of the program but also inspired a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
Looking Ahead: The Leaders We Need
As the buses rolled out of Dehradun, students didn’t just return home — they returned with a mission. A mission to lead not with titles, but with truth. To inspire not just with actions, but with authenticity. And to build communities that thrive on compassion, courage, and collaboration.
