BY ADMIN PUBLISHED August 27, 2022, UPDATED January 9, 2023

Internet is a very important part of modern education. In fact, education has become more universal and worldwide than ever before because of the Internet. It provides a wealth of information, educational resources, and knowledge; it increases opportunities for learning in and outside the classroom.

But as we know everything in this world has two sides – Bright and Dark.Despite all the good that the Internet has brought there are people who use it with malicious content. Hence it led to virtual bullying from the very beginning of the Internet.

HOW CYBER BULLYING BEGINS?

Once the bully gets something about the personal life of the victim, they start either blackmailing or harass them.

Cyber bullying was first used in 1998. It was defined as “an act of bullying in the form of digital media or devices.” India is on the 4th position in cyber bullying. About 50% of children are the cyber bullies. Most people knowingly but also some unknowingly people contribute to the bullying in this virtual world. Somewhere cyber bulling is the feeling of supremacy or just to have fun which results in a criminal act such as bullying.

Effects of cyber bullying on students

  • Mental and physical Effect –cyber bulling can result to frustration and distress to the victim.
  • Focus on studies– the victim can lose his/her focus on studies and start staying alone.
  • Feel alone and isolated– mostly the victims feel lonely and try to get separate with rest of the world. They stop participating in any social event and try to remain isolated.
  • Disinterested in attending school – if the bulling in done by someone in school then the victim tries not to go to school and prefer staying home.
  • The victim might fall ill – he/she may have headache or fever and undergo depression.

How to prevent cyber bullying?

  • Steps should be taken by parents and family members – communication is very important to know about the situation. If parents talk with the child in a friendly manner sharing their life experiences, then the child will start trusting and will be more comfortable to share his/her problem.
  • In school there must be workshops informing students about the cyber bullying and a counseling session.
  • Law making- government has created many laws regarding the bulling of child hence the laws must be known to every child.
