How can children learn about gender equality?

BY ADMIN PUBLISHED August 27, 2022, UPDATED January 9, 2023

Family, the first home of children plays a pivotal role in providing gender equality education. The thinking and mindset of every child are shaped the way the parents think and act in their day to day life. Values imbibed in the children in the early years of life have an everlasting effect and so it becomes very important to sensitize our children about gender equality. It is not imperative to do great things but it is important to do small things in a great manner.  Little things and small steps many a time does wonder. To curtail the practice of gender stereotypes in our society, it becomes important that the care work should be shared among all the members of the family.

Discussions on gender equality should be embraced.  The most vital learning comes from one’s family. Values held within a family are more crucial to sensitize the present youth on the significance of gender equality. Household chores are always neglected by boys and men to be called mere work. Let families build up a culture where not only women are entrusted with the task of cleaning dishes, furniture, preparing meals, taking care of babies, laundry every day but the responsibilities of the household chores are mutually shared by the male members of the family as well, which will deliver the message Work is Worship in its true sense thereby creating the ideology of gender equality practically in everyday life. Creating an enabling environment at home where the family members are involved in open discussions on various social issues, both the male and female members are provided the opportunity to express their thoughts.  When we educate and empower the youth for gender equality we are creating a better future and a safe society.

Let the youth be provided a platform where they can express their mind without fear. Let our children accept the fact that it is okay to be different, encouraging a culture of acceptance both at home and in school. Its high time that we stop preaching our youth rather than listen to them and learn many things from them.  The youth of today, be it girls or boys are independent, have their thought process with endless possibilities, and enormous talent to build a civilized society. It thus becomes important to hone their skills and listen to them patiently and set the example by practicing gender equality in our homes making them realize the relevance of respecting individuals and being human.
