When Experiences Become Lessons: Learning Through Reflection

BY ADMIN PUBLISHED October 12, 2026, UPDATED January 1, 1970

A fort can tell a story, a traditional craft can spark an idea, and a simple conversation can challenge everything a student thought they knew. But what happens when children pause to make sense of these experiences? That is where the real learning begins.

At DPSG Vasundhara, the Educational Experiential Learning Journey under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) campaign goes beyond exploration, creating space for students to reflect on what they have seen, understood and discovered. Through daily reflective journals, they revisit the day's experiences, exchange observations and put their thoughts into words. What might begin as a moment of curiosity gradually develops into a deeper understanding of history, culture, science and the world around them.

The journey is guided by ten learning lenses that encourage students to examine each state's identity from multiple perspectives. History, geography, architecture, astronomy, culture, livelihoods and sustainability are not being explored as isolated subjects. Instead, students are discovering how these areas intersect and influence the lives of communities across India.

As they record their observations, students develop the habit of thinking critically. They learn to ask why things were built a certain way, how communities adapted to their environment and what traditional practices can teach us today. Revisiting these questions in their journals also strengthens their ability to organise information, interpret experiences and form their own conclusions.

Reflective journals are helping students make sense of every discovery. Through daily journal entries, students revisit their observations, articulate their questions and record the insights emerging from their experiences. This process encourages them to distinguish between what they observe and what they infer, organise information and develop reasoned interpretations. Writing also gives them an opportunity to connect new knowledge with what they have already learnt. Hence, their journals become a space for personal interpretation rather than simply a record of facts. Further, as students learn together, it adds another dimension to the experience. Travelling and exploring as a group also builds cooperation, adaptability, independence and the confidence to engage with unfamiliar situations.

Through EBSB campaign, students at DPSG Vasundhara are discovering that education is not limited to acquiring information. It is also about developing the curiosity to question, the creativity to interpret and the empathy to understand perspectives beyond their own. And when children learn to reflect on their experiences, they begin to turn everyday discoveries into lifelong learning.
