UNITED NATIONS- ITS ROLE IN PROMOTING WORLD PEACE

United Nations, a milestone in history after World War II, conceived as a unifier of states and populations, its central mission was to restore international peace and ensure security. It also develops rules in order to help achieve peaceful conclusions to problems affecting the world. The United Nations view is that, no matter how small or poor a nation is, it still has a voice and a say in the development of the world. One of the purposes of the United Nations, as stated in its Charter, is “to achieve international co-operation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character.”
For instance if we talk about Unites Nations General Assembly (UNGA) which is an organ of the UN, Since its inception, the UN General Assembly has been a forum for lofty declarations, sometimes audacious rhetoric, and rigorous debate over the world’s most vexing issues, from poverty and development to peace and security. “Uniting for Peace” Resolution in 1950 is one of the many steps that UNGA has ever taken to save humanity.
In another instance, A problem like Terrorism has truly become a global threat that requires a global and prevention-focused response. Numerous United Nations outputs, including Security Council resolutions, have articulated and re-emphasized that such cooperation needs to be strengthened at every level including bilaterally, regionally, and internationally. Though the problem of terrorism is still not solved but the remarkable progress that has been made is because of the UN.
Talking about the pandemic that has currently engulfed our globe, the Coronavirus; the United Nations, more specifically the WHO has very efficiently controlled the situation. From providing medical equipment to hospitals to conducting COVID-19 tests at “free testing centres”, the WHO has been very successful in its efforts.
The United Nations is the force that binds all the Nations together to combat every issue that comes in the way of peace.
