Academic Dishonesty: A menace to Education System

BY ADMIN PUBLISHED October 6, 2020, UPDATED January 5, 2023

“Success without integrity is failure and knowledge without integrity is dreadful”

Corona Pandemic has brought about a substantial change in the society especially in the education system. The physical classrooms have suddenly converted to virtual classes and exams have been shifted to Microsoft forms or other online portals. This in turn has made it easier for the students to cheat as teachers are not physically present to keep an eye on them. There are some children who may feel that it is more convenient to use ‘ctrl + C’ followed by ‘ctrl + V’ then to understand, learn and then write.

Students who focus only on obtaining marks tend to forget the purpose of education. We don’t study for degrees alone but to succeed in life by using knowledge and skills we have developed during the whole process of teaching-learning.

If we continue being dishonest, we will soon be a part of a society where people will have degrees but no knowledge or skills. What will be the future of such a society? To avoid such a situation, students need to stop taking advantage of the circumstances. They should understand that it’s not an act of disloyalty towards their parents or teachers but to themselves. They might have marks written in their report cards but won’t have the skills required. In order to have a bright shining future, focus on understanding of the concepts is needed and honest academics is the only way for a society to progress.
