RATIONALIZING OF CLASS X SOCIAL SCIENCE SYLLABUS

BY ADMIN PUBLISHED October 6, 2020, UPDATED January 5, 2023

The Social Science curriculum includes History, Geography, Political Science and Economics. Each subject has different methods of inquiry which help the learner understand the society better.

The CBSE has rationalized up to 30% of the syllabus of Political Science, History and Geography to make up for the academic loss caused by the Coronavirus outbreak. Under the present circumstances, the best option was to reduce the burden of syllabus on the students.

In Class X History, only one chapter has been completely deleted, while in Geography where chapters have been deleted the map work has been retained, providing an insight to the students about the major topic discussed therein.

In Political Science, the chapters Democracy and Diversity, Caste, Religion and Gender, Popular Struggles and Movements and Challenges to Democracy have been deleted which deal with common day to day issues related to functioning of a democratic set up which the child is mostly aware of. This will not in any way impede the understanding of crucial topics such as Power Sharing, Federalism and Political Parties.
