Learning That Stays: Turning Everyday Experiences into Lasting Lessons

BY ADMIN PUBLISHED October 12, 2026, UPDATED January 1, 1970

Not every important lesson comes from a textbook, and not every discovery happens when a teacher is explaining something. Sometimes, learning begins with observing something unfamiliar, listening to another person's story or discussing an experience with a friend. What makes these moments truly meaningful is the opportunity to pause, reflect and connect them with what students already know.

At DPSG Meerut Road, the Educational Experiential Learning Journey under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB) campaign brings this process to the forefront through daily reflective journals. Students revisit the day's experiences, exchange perspectives and record their observations, gradually building a deeper understanding of the places, people and practices they encounter. To guide this exploration, the Ten learning lenses are helping students connect different areas of knowledge.

By examining history, geography, architecture, science, environment, culture, industry and local livelihoods, students are discovering how different aspects of a region influence one another. This approach encourages them to draw connections across subjects rather than view each area of learning in isolation.

As students observe unfamiliar places and practices, they are encouraged to investigate the reasons behind what they encounter. How does the natural environment influence local livelihoods? What can architecture reveal about the period in which it was created? How do traditional practices reflect a community's resources and knowledge?

These questions encourage students to apply existing knowledge to new contexts, recognise relationships and develop a more analytical understanding of the world around them.

Further, through Reflective journals during EBSB journey, students get the opportunity to revisit their observations, record questions and articulate what they have learnt. As they distinguish between facts, interpretations and emerging questions, they practice organising information and developing reasoned conclusions.

The journals also allow students to explore their experiences creatively. By connecting new discoveries with prior knowledge and expressing their individual interpretations, they strengthen independent thinking and written communication.

Peer discussions are adding new dimensions to individual learning. When students exchange observations, they encounter perspectives that may differ from their own. Explaining an idea, listening to a classmate or reconsidering an assumption encourages thoughtful communication and intellectual openness.

The shared journey also provides opportunities to develop teamwork, adaptability, empathy and confidence while navigating unfamiliar situations together. These social experiences complement academic learning by helping students understand the importance of cooperation and mutual respect.

At DPSG Meerut Road, EBSB brings academic inquiry and personal development together. The journey is encouraging students to question thoughtfully, connect knowledge across disciplines and appreciate the experiences of communities beyond their own.

As observation develops into understanding, learning becomes more than the acquisition of information. It becomes a way for students to engage more meaningfully with India's diversity and recognise the shared connections that unite its people.
