It has been thirty years since I passed out from Delhi Public School Ghaziabad in 1990. 30 years is a long time, a time in which one full generation changes. But, thinking about my school days still gives me goosebumps.
I joined DPSG in 1986 in Class 9th. It did not have the big lavish building that is present today. We used to study in Army barracks-like triangular single storey buildings with asbestos sheet roofs and big glass windows. The rooms used to be like the inside of an oven in summers, but rains were real fun with water playing music on the asbestos sheets.
What the school lacked in building infrastructure was more than made up for by the excellent faculty and support staff. Not only was the classroom teaching remarkable, but the school also contributed to our holistic development by encouraging us to regularly participate in sports, dramatics, debates and outstation excursions, to name a few. I was fortunate enough to be taught by our English teacher Dr. A. K. Saxena, who taught us not only to read the lines, but also to âread between the linesâ and that perhaps was one of the most important lessons in life.
Whatever I am today, as an Orthopaedic Surgeon and as a human being, my DPSG has played an invaluable part in shaping me. Even today when I visit the school and read my name on the School Captains Board outside the Principalâs office, I am filled with emotions. So much is my confidence in this school that my daughter and son are also studying in âMy School - The DPSGâ.
